Children
enjoy playing with dolls that look and act like them. Knowing this,
Margarita Maria Mesa Leal created Amamanta Family, a concept that through
OneWorld Inc. as it’s US exclusive distributor produces a line of
multicultural, breastfeeding anatomically detailed dolls. The dolls come
in families of four and five-- pregnant woman doll, father doll, the
siblings doll, a girl doll and a boy doll and nursing newborn doll--and
represent more than 14 cultures, including traditional costumes Japanese
dolls, Swiss dolls, Mexican dolls, Guatemalan dolls, Hindu dolls, Spaniard
dolls, Hispanic traditional dolls, Colombian dolls, Italian dolls and more
ethnic dolls. Anatomically detailed, mom is designed to show the birth
process; a small cloth sack attached to her abdomen serves as the birth
canal. Following birth, baby can then nurse at mother's breast. The folk
toys are handmade by poor Colombian mothers who use their craft to support
their families.

| Amamanta
Family is a set of educational anatomically correct dolls.
They are ideal for explaining the human
reproductive cycle to boys and girls ages 3 to 10. From
conception and birth of babies, breastfeeding,
sexual education to demonstrating appropriate versus inappropriate
touching.
These dolls
include true anatomical details such as stitched on genitals and breasts. This
means that children and parents alike will find the dolls true-to-life and see themselves
as naturally complete and OK.

Parents can use Amamanta anatomically-correct dolls as a
sex education tool to help prevent or reduce the incidence of sexual
molestation or abuse. Dolls
come "complete" with removable underwear, clothes and shoes.
Amamanta family cloth
dolls are soft and cuddly and consist of a mother doll, father doll, two
sibling dolls: a boy doll and a girl doll and
newborn baby doll.
This newborn baby can be placed in the mother’s belly and pulled out of
the mothers womb to demonstrate birthing to the child.
Amamanta is an ideal interactive set of dolls for role playing with your
children and a insightful discovery tool to explore your child’s
mindset, perspective, emotional well being, worries or fears. A responsible
parent or child therapist can address child issues that surface through playing.

Amamanta dolls are also an ideal
tool for explaining pregnancy and the arrival of a new sibling to a young
child. Changes that “mommie” is going through in her pregnancy,
the birth process and the needs of the newborn (i.e.: nursing can also be
addressed.). The parent can better manage the expectations of the child by
explaining the changes in the parental roles as
well as the new brother/sister role that the child can embrace when the
new sibling comes home. Amamanta
dolls can help parents guide children learn her/his new role of caring and protecting
sister/brother through role-playing with parents. This can help in prevent
sibling rivalry and jealous sentiments as the child adjusts to the arrival
of a newborn. Other changes affecting the family and the child can be
explained and rehearsed through role playing with these realistic and wholesome dolls. |

The anatomically-correct
Amamanta family set of dolls have multiple uses for parents, educators, child therapists,
health care professionals and sexual abuse prevention centers. It’s
an interactive, role-playing tool for hands-on teaching that opens
discussion about family issues in a non-obtrusive, natural and playful
way.

Amamanta is also a
wholesome prop for teaching your family
values and instilling good principles at an early age. Parent can role-play with the child and
dolls as an
alternative to a bed time story. This technique may help discover and
resolve conflicts or concerns affecting the child during the day.

Amamanta
Family is a concept created right from the very beginning. They are
hand-made with great love and care in a fair-trade market style in
Medellin, Colombia. Your purchase of Amamanta
helps provide income and job opportunities to one of the most disadvantaged
people in the area. These dolls are not made in an industrial factory setting;
instead each Amamanta doll is assembled by hand and therefore unique. Amamanta has created a needs-based
apprenticeship model in which women are trained by their peers and work from their homes
in a family setting. Two local non-for-profit organizations work closely with
Amamanta in the recruiting process so that job opportunities can be created to empower the people that need work the
most. This way, although it could seem more difficult at times, we know
that Amamanta is doing something “right” to help poverty in Colombia
and providing a valuable tool for good parenting in a more affluent
society. Act locally, think globally! |
